I spent the summer oscillating between two ends of a spectrum. On one side is staying indoors, socially distant, and working. On the other side, with my mask and my hat, I am exploring New York City by running. Since the start of summer I put on almost 300 miles to discover my new home. In both cases, I think about how the things I make could and should help the people around me during this moment. I have yet to come to a clear conclusion, but am excited to announce an important step in taking this thought process seriously.
Starting September 2, 2020 I will be joining NEW INC as a member of their Cultural Futures track. NEW INC describes itself as, “an incubator for people working at the intersection of art, design, and technology.” The Cultural Futures track brings together a handful of creative practitioners to explore the question:
What comes first, the culture or the technology through which we perceive it?
One theme from my work from the last eight years is a give-and-take nature between the digital tools and finished pieces of art I make. At the center of this dialog is a JavaScript library I created and continue to maintain called Two.js. My project proposal to Cultural Futures involves expanding this library to address this question.
Here’s to new endeavors, risks, and findings,
